My wife and I are not kitchen gadget people, but I'm willing to make the occasional exception for medical necessity, such as the pursuit of the ultimate cup of coffee. Which led me to look for a milk frother, and here we are, passionately in love with an inanimate object. This little appliance is just fantastic. Before we get techie, the most important thing for you to know is this: your results will depend ENTIRELY on the milk you use. Whole milk works fantastic, quickly frothing up into a stiff foam (see photo). Whole milk is what the manufacturer recommends for best results. But I normally use oat milk, and here is where my results started to differ. Oatly foamed great, justly like regular milk. Chobani gave it the old college try, but could only manage a bubbly, light froth that didn't last long in the cup. SOWN oat creamer did absolutely nothing - didn't even make bubbles - which is disappointing, because it has a picture of a foamy latte right on the carton. I assume this is why some oat milks are specifically marketed as "barista's choice". For the record, this unit also made a great cup of hot cocoa - just add a teaspoon of quality cocoa powder and sugar to taste, push button #3 (heat and stir), and in no time you have a cup of lip-smacking deliciousness. Now the particulars. The unit is about 7 inches (18 cm) tall off the base, and weighs just over a pound (450 g). Given the size and weight, this product may be unwieldy for some people - I'm thinking specifically of my elderly mother as I write this. The motor is in the unit itself, which is why it has some weight to it. It sits on a flat power-connector base, like an electric teakettle. It has a bit of a "cheap plastic" vibe going, but I think the overall build quality is quite good and I expect it to last. It is whisper quiet when running, which is important because I'm up earlier than everybody else in the house. The inside is a non-stick surface that is easily cleaned, and is conveniently marked so you know the max and min liquid levels to use. When I made the cocoa, there was a very light scalding at the bottom, easily cleaned out with the included little whisk broom (the manufacturer notes that solids on the bottom is normal and to be expected). No extra cleaning involved when foaming - just rinse and dry.Absolutely love it. My morning coffee is now my morning latte. As is my noon coffee... and my afternoon coffee... and my before bed coffee. Maybe I should cut back.
